SUTPHIN, Robert (Bob) E. aged 75 passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane, parents Edward and Nellie Sutphin, Father-in-law and Mother-in-law; John and Mary Tuffy, Sisters; Martha Hanshaw and Ruth Cecil, Brothers; Don Bailey and David L. Sutphin, Son-in-law; Mark Austin, Two special nephews; Doug Hanshaw and Michael Haas. He is survived by his children; Joan Austin of Dayton, Carol (Stanley) Perrine of Dayton, and Robert Sutphin of Dayton. Grandchildren; Susan Mullikin (Jason), Lauralee (Tim) Mullikin-Petree, Bradley Arrowood, Molly Arrowood, Stephanie Sutphin, and Robert Sutphin. Great grandchildren; Jordan Kucharski and Annabelle Gray. Loving Companion, Pat Bright, Special Nephew; David Hanshaw as well as may other close nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bob graduated from Stivers high school and attended Sinclair Community College as well as several Dale Carnegie Seminars.

He was a photo-engraver by trade and retired from the Mead Corporation. His occupation was an integral part of his life and even when the trade became obsolete with technology, Bob was able to adapt and find work thanks to his fun-loving personality, strong work ethic, and strong connections with others. He was very proud of his occupation as an engraver (finisher) and took great satisfaction that even as he worked his way up the ladder becoming a plant superintendent, he still carried his union card and he considered himself a loyal "Union Man." On many occasions, Bob was able to utilize his expert negotiation skills as means to quell disunity in the workplace. A great joy to Bob was the relationships that he formed with his co-workers from Oxford Engraving (Mead) of which he still maintained close ties with until his death.

Bobs life embodied the spirit of living life to the fullest through work experiences, close relationships, and taking time to enjoy his hobbies and pastimes. He held many positions after retirement including a cook, meat cutter, baker, bus-driver for seniors & ushered for Cincinnati Reds which is a testament to his liberal, positive attitude that a person could do anything that they wanted to do in this life. Bob was very spiritual and loved his family dearly. His grandkids knew him as "Bamp," an endearing name coined after the eldest granddaughter could not pronounce grandpa properly and this nickname stuck throughout his life. He enjoyed a unique relationship with each person and made everyone feel special. He had the ability to find gifts in each family member and encouraged them to utilize their gifts to the fullest.

Bob had many interests. He loved the ocean, football (Cincinnati Bengals and Notre Dame University), baseball (Cincinnati Reds), and basketball (University of Dayton and Chaminade-Julienne Girls basketball) which he followed since 1993. He also enjoyed cooking, reading, long walks, traveling, watching family sporting events, coaching, and listening to music specifically Blues. He also loved softball and played on the Kettering Senior League 55 & up as a first baseman.

He was a veteran of the Navy, served in Korean Conflict, honorary discharged in 1955.

Bob wanted to thank Dr. Kaplan from the Dayton VA Medical Center as well as the Crossroads Hospice team members with special thanks to Nurse Jamie Anderson who served as his primary nurse. Also Bob would like to thank Nurse Elizabeth Scals-West and Nurses Aide, Lori Edwards for the wonderful care that they provided him.

Bob was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, companion, and friend and will be missed dearly.

Memorial contributions will be made to Chaminade-Julienne Girls Basketball Program in his memory, 505 S. Ludlow St., Dayton, Ohio 45402. Family will receive friends Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 12 noon until 2 at the Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home, 1632 Wayne Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45410. Chaplain Jim Hopkins will be officiating.
