John J. Baran Jr., 82, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Monday evening, March 13, 2017, at in Inpatient Unit of Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Patrician) Baran Sr. John was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School and attended Wilkes-Barre Business College and also attended Luzerne County Community College for three years studying Culinary Arts. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1958 to 1960.

John was self-employed as a master plumber and was employed as the Wilkes-Barre City Plumbing Inspector, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, and was a charter member of the Parsons Lions Club, a member of the North End Slovak Club, Wilkes-Barre, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for 32 years for the former St. John's and Sacred Heart Slovak Churches of North Wilkes-Barre, and on Sunday distributed Holy Communion at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice (Wilk) Baran; daughter, Ann Marie Baran; and grandson, Julian Walsh Davies.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Alice Delaney Walsh Baran, Parsons; children, Dr. James Baran and wife, Carole, Pittsburgh; Mary Baran, Throop; Daria Walsh and husband, Paul Tubb, Howth, Dublin, Ireland; Christine Walsh Davies and husband, Matt, Hummelstown, Pa.; Nora Walsh Reinhard and husband, Jason, Whitehall, Pa.; grandchildren, Tracey, Laura, Celia, Sarah, James Patrick and Connor; great-grandson, John Fredrick; sister, Marian Baran, Naples, Fla.; several nephews and nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, with Father Joseph Verespy, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Wyoming.

Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains. Those attending the funeral Mass are asked to go directly to St. Nicholas Church on Saturday morning.

Fr. Thomas Timothy Delaney was born on December 7, 1951. He died on October 19, 2007, at age 55.
The Rev. T. Timothy Delaney, pastor emeritus of Saint Boniface Church, Wilkes-Barre, and a resident at St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday, October 19, 2007, after an illness.

Father Delaney, a son of the late Thomas and Florence Brannigan Delaney, was born in Wilkes-Barre, on December 7, 1951. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Father Delaney attended King's College, Wilkes-Barre, and graduated from Conception Seminary College, Conception, Mo.

He completed his studies for the priesthood at Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, N.Y.

Father Delaney was ordained on September 1, 1979, in St. Peter's Cathedral, Scranton, by the Most Rev. J. Carroll McCormick, D.D., late Bishop of Scranton.

Father Delaney served as an assistant pastor at St. Peter's Cathedral, Scranton; St. Aloysius Parish, Wilkes-Barre; St. Gregory's Parish, Clarks Green; St. Thomas More Parish, Lake Ariel; and St. Nicholas Parish, Wilkes-Barre.

He also served as the administrator of St. Leo's Parish in Ashley.

Father Delaney received his first pastorate at St. Boniface Parish, Wilkes-Barre, on June 20, 1991, and remained there until his retirement and appointment as pastor emeritus on July 5, 2000.

Father Delaney also served the diocese as director of the campus ministry at Lackawanna Junior College; chaplain at the State Correction Institution, Dallas; and dean of the Central/South Wilkes-Barre area.

Father Delaney had several of his works published by Our Sunday Visitor Publications.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Roseann McNulty.

He is survived by three sisters, Noreen Delaney, of Kingston, Alice Baran, of Wilkes-Barre, and Maura Delaney, of Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews.

A Pontifical Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, by the Most Rev. James C. Timlin, retired Bishop of Scranton, in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.

A viewing will take place on Monday prior to the 11 a.m. funeral Mass.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

A viewing will also be held in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, on Sunday from 4 to 6:45 p.m. A Vigil Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m., with Monsignor Francis J. Callahan, Dean, presiding

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Lupus Foundation.
