Small Plane Crashes, Two Persons Killed

Two persons were killed Saturday evening when a single engined aircraft crashed near a private airfield in rural Pike County, authorities said.

The Piper J-3 aircraft crashed into a cluster of small ttrees shortly after 6 PM in teh executive Eagles Landing subdivision, Pike County Sherriff Billy Riggins said.

Riggins identified the victims as Francis Patrick McGing 43, of Molena and his 40 year old sister, Mary Anne McGing Thornton of College Park.

The sheriff said teh two were killed instantly when the small aircraft apparently went out of control and crashed near the airstrip, which serves several airline piloits who live in teh community and commute by plane to Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta.

Riggins said McGing and his sister had taken off from one of teh two airstrips in teh sprawling subdivision.
