Carol Ann Richter Mullen, 71, died Sept. 3, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson after a long battle with cancer.

Visitation is 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, with a Mass of Celebration following at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood with the Revs. Brian Carroll and Noel Pendergast officiating. A family graveside service with military honors will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.

Carol Ann Richter was born Oct. 14, 1941, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Melvin J. and Loretta Richter. She was raised in Brooklyn and Staten Island, N.Y. She graduated with honors with a bachelor's degree in business administration from Penn State University in 1961, where she was affiliated with Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She attended Wagner College graduate school, Staten Island, for one year and worked as a stock analyst in New York and San Francisco before entering the U.S. Naval Officer's School, Newport, R.I., and the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School, Athens, Ga. She rose to the rank of lieutenant and was stationed to Naval Weapons Station Concord, Calif., where she met her husband, Lt. Thomas William Mullen. The couple married on Oct. 12, 1968, and raised three sons in California and Mississippi. She was a longtime parishioner of Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton and later St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas William Mullen of Brandon; her sons, John Patrick (Dena) Mullen of Memphis, Tenn., Steven Thomas (Lee) Mullen of Oxford, and Geoffrey Christopher (Kristen) Mullen of Jackson; and seven grandchildren.

ONES.-- Claude Jones, owner and editor of the Tyrone Herald, died at his home in Tyrone, last Saturday morning, following an illness of two and a half months. He was stricken on February 17th and taken to a Philadelphia hospital where he remained until the 9th of April, when he returned home.
He was a son of David M. and Amanda Palmer Jones and was born in Tyrone over fifty-eight years ago. He was a graduate of Cornell university and in addition to his newspaper work served eight years as register and recorder of Blair county. He was a member of the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce, the I. O. O. F., the Moose, O. U. A. M., Sons of America, Knights of Pythias and the Tyrone club. He married Miss Stella A. Armor, daughter of the late Monroe Armor, of Bellefonte, who survives with two children, Benjamin C. Jones, an attorney in Philadelphia, and Miss Mary Elizabeth, at home.
