THis is a placeholder, can't really say.

I have no proofs for his children (other than Anthony) but am adding them because they could be valuable leads, but they are not yet proven.

Biography

Peter Collins was born in 1819 in Islandeady, Mayo, IrelandG. He died in 1857, at age ~38, in Baltimore, MarylandG.
The oldest son, Peter, a fine young man in every phase of physical or mental caliber, was six feet tall, weighed thirteen stone, or one hundred and eighty-two pounds when he was twenty-one. He joined the Irish Constabulary, who at that time
only accepted picked men, who were physically up to a high standard. He was with the Constabulary until eighteen forty-seven, when the landlords began to evict the tenants on the big estates.

The constabulary used to throw the families and their poor possessions, furniture and clothing, out on the roadside.

It was then Peter resigned, and by a great struggle came in the steerage to America. He landed at Baltimore, Maryland, where he soon found employment in a tobacco ware house.

As he was good at figures, and wrote a good clear hand, he was soon given a clerical position. The wages were low, but he saved and saved, and brought over the Mother and three youngest children first, and older and grown children later.

He made a home for them in Baltimore and while, for a time they grieved at leaving the Green Isle of the sea, they found many of their countrymen there, and also it was one of the best Catholic cities in the United States.

Soon all were employed, as they all had what the Irish race always had, strong hearts, and willing hands. Thus happiness and a small measure of prosperity was theirs, but alas!

Like all things in life, it's ever changing, and sadness follows joy, the great good man of the family, Peter, died. He was about thirty-eight years old. He passed away in 1857.

Biography

Her uncle on her father's side, was the man, who, in my youthful days, I was most proud of— Thomas Kearney; for he was among the gallant men of 98— 1798, who offered their lives that Ireland might be free.

He was tried next day by a drum head court martial, and sentenced to be hung. They claim the hair of the old man, his father, Padric Kearney, turned white that night. They had always been on friendly terms with Joe Burke of Green Hill a Protestant gentleman, yet a kind humanitarian. He interceded for the life of the prisoner and they commuted his sentence to imprisonment for life in the "hell hole" of British Penal Island prisons, Van Diemens Land.

There, with untold sufferings, they were forced to endure. At the end of seven years, when, broken in health and about to die, he was parolled by the British government and came back to Castlebar to die. He lived about a year and was buried in the, at that time, Church Yard (the old church in Islenady).
