Brendan Francis Farrell, 26, of Oak Park, passed away suddenly on October 21, 2022.

He was born on October 4, 1996 to Mary Alice (Gibbons) Farrell and Shaun T. Farrell.

Brendan, who had autism, blossomed and thrived throughout his childhood due to the therapeutic programs at his day school, Giant Steps, in Lisle. He attended the school from kindergarten until he was 22. After graduation, he enjoyed a rich life with his own community at Canopy, the Giant Steps adult day program.

Brendan was sweet and gentle, happy and goofy, and so loving and affectionate. Brendy was nonverbal but he had brilliant and memorable ways of communicating— when he appreciated someone, he conveyed it with more clarity than the most adept speaker. Brendan touched so many people, and so, so many people contributed to the brightness and fullness of his life.

He will be greatly missed by his devoted mother, Mary, his loving father, Shaun, and his loyal brothers, Jack and Kevin, his stepmother, Annmarie Dore, his Grandma Pat Farrell, and his aunts and uncles and cousins, all of whom had a special place in their hearts for him. His maternal grandmother, Beatrice Gibbons, who loved him dearly, followed him home to Heaven just hours after his passing.

Brendan will be lying-in-state Thursday October 27, 2022 at Ascension Church 808 S. East Avenue, Oak Park from 11:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 p.m. Private Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
