Survivors include his children, Daniel Koonce of Sulphur, Rita Reed of Sulphur, James Michael Koonce of Magnolia, Texas, and John Edward Koonce of Wellston, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Mary Gibbons Koonce; his sisters, Peggy Ritter and Edith Clark; nephew, Brad Clark; niece, Cheryl Peak; and great-niece, Elizabeth Clark.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Final interment will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss.
