(Research):The funeral for Theresa "Terry" Nihill (nee Burke), 78, will begin with prayers at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road (one block east of Naperville Road), Wheaton, proceeding to St. Michael Church, for a Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at the funeral home. She passed away peacefully in her home Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, surrounded by her loving husband, John "Jack", and her family. In her final days, her children serenaded her with the Irish songs and show tunes she taught them all when they were young. She also taught them by example how to make a house a loving, fun-filled, albeit, crowded home. She will be sorely missed by all. "We know she is resting peacefully and will remain in our hearts forever. We will see her on the other side of the rainbow." She was born in Chicago, Oct. 24, 1929, the daughter of the late Martin and Mary Heneghan Burke and grew up on Chicago's west side in Resurrection Parish. Shortly before graduating from Catherine of Sienna High school, she met her future husband, Jack. They were married in June of 1949, lived in Chicago until 1953, when they moved to Wheaton, where they raised their nine children. A longtime member of St. Michael's Parish, this mother of nine volunteered both at the church and as homeroom mother many times. She accompanied her kids on many field trips and also cheered at the many sporting and school events of her husband, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She also worked part-time at local pharmacies and for many years was the crossing guard at Lincoln Grade School. She was active with many community volunteer programs including Meals on Wheels and the Interfaith Food Pantry until her own health was compromised. She then enjoyed the pleasure and antics of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who always loved her songs and games. Theresa is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Jack; devoted children, Jack (Marsha), Marty (Kathy), Mary (Mike) Fitzgerald, Cathy (Dave) Rademaker, Tisha (Ron Botto), Nancy (Darrell) Adkins, Tom (Theresa), Ann (Larry) Impola, and Dan (Christi); 20 loving grandchildren and 12 delightful great-grand children; dear sister, Nora (the late Frank) Shaw; dear brother, Pat (Cookie). She is also survived by loving brothers- and sisters-in law and was the fond aunt of many nieces, nephews, and lots of wonderful friends and neighbors.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Mary Burke; brother, Martin; and sisters, Mary Ellen Giba, Kay (Bill) Maloney, Winnie (Dick) Virzi, and Agnes. Donations can be made in memory of Terry Nihill's name to Clare Woods Academy, 801 Bartlett Road, Bartlett, IL 60103.
Her family wishes to especially thank Dr. Steve Armbrust for his selfless dedication to her care and support throughout her illness. Special thanks to CNS Hospice, Elvie Poole, and all the family and friends who visited, sent cards, flowers, and food. "Terry loved all of you and cherished her time with you."
