(Research):E. Edward Henry, 91, of Mifflinburg, formerly of Martinsburg, passed away Monday evening, November 14, 2022 at Riverwoods in Lewisburg.

He was born in Roaring Spring at the original Nason Hospital, son of the late Dr. Harry E. and Marian L. (Ake) Henry. On December 29, 1956 he married Doris Eileen Kensinger, who preceded him in death on June 30, 2014, following 57 years of marriage.

Surviving are three daughters: Mitzi Henry Jones of Camp Hill, Mindy Lind (Dale) of Lewisburg and Marcie Bechtold (William) of Chambersburg; three granddaughters: Amber Lind, Morgan Bechtold and Kelly Lapetina (Daniel); and two grandsons: Nathan Lind (Allison Grose) and Billy Bechtold.

He was preceded in death by a brother, W. Gene Henry.

Ed was a 1948 graduate of the former Martinsburg High School. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Lineman/Radioman from 1951 until 1953, with the B Company-1st Battalion-5th Marine Regiment, attaining the rank of sergeant.

While growing up in the cove, Ed was a member of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Martinsburg. After moving to Lewisburg, he joined the Faith Lutheran Church, where he served on the property committee, church council, taught adult Sunday school and played on the church softball team. For the past 20 years, Ed has been a faithful member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mifflinburg.

In his youth, Ed owned Henry Hobby Shop, which was a convenient way for his father, Doc Henry to expand his gun collection. As a young man he also worked for the Cove Farm Bureau in Curryville and later at The Green Giant Cannery in Martinsburg, where he met the love of his life, Doris. Ed was employed for 28 years as a Maintenance Mechanic for Chef Boy-Ar-Dee in Milton, and also worked for a few years at Knouse Foods in Chambersburg

In the 1950's Ed served as the Troop 58 Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a 60 year member of the Woodbury Lodge #539 F&AM, Roaring Spring and a former member and vice president of the Martinsburg Sportmen's Association. Ed loved spending time with family and also enjoyed playing baseball and raising pigeons and hawks.

Friends will be received from 11am until 1pm, Saturday, November 19, 2022 at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, where a funeral service will follow at 1pm, Rev. Traci Marriott officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Following the graveside service all are invited back to the church for light food and refreshments.

A memorial service is also being planned for 11am, Tuesday, November 29, 2022 with a meal to follow, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, where Rev. Curt Wingert will officiate.

(Research):MIFFLINBURG — Doris Eileen (Kensinger) Henry, 76, of Mifflinburg, formerly of Martinsburg, passed away Monday evening, June 30, 2014, at her home following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born March 22, 1938, at her home in Fredericksburg, rural Martinsburg, a daughter of the late Paul O. and Helen (Appleman) Kensinger. On Dec. 29, 1956, she married E. Edward Henry, who survives.

Doris was a 1956 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg. Later that year, she met her husband, Ed, while employed at the Green Giant Cannery, Martinsburg. After moving to Lewisburg, Doris worked for the JPM Co. and at the physical plant at Bucknell University, running the snack shop. In Chambersburg, she worked at Sunny Way Grocery store and the Butcher Shoppe.

She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg. In her youth, she attended Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, Fredericksburg, rural Martinsburg. In previous years, she belonged to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, and Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, where she enjoyed serving on various committees, especially the altar guild.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching. She was a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. Doris also was an enthusiastic Penn State fan, helping Joe Pa coach from the living room. Once she discovered email, she was known to forward dozens of emails in a single day. Affectionately known as Grammy, Doris cherished her five grandchildren. Her family will remember Doris for her famous "Grammisms" such as always "leaving a house by the same way she entered for fear of leaving her luck behind" and at meal time "eating everything so it will be a nice day tomorrow" and the one her daughters heard most often during their teen years, "kissing causes cavities."

Doris was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Mitzi, Mindy and Marcie. Doris and Ed raised their daughters in Lewisburg, and later in life, they made their home in Martinsburg, Chambersburg and Mifflinburg.

She is survived by Ed, of Mifflinburg, her beloved husband of more than 57 years; three daughters, Mitzi Jones, of Camp Hill, Mindy Lind and husband Dale, of Lewisburg, and Marcie Bechtold and husband William, of Beverly Hills, Fla.; three granddaughters, Kelly Jones, Amber Lind and Morgan Bechtold; two grandsons, Nathan Lind and Billy Bechtold; two sisters, Audrey Hite and Donna Smith, both of Martinsburg; two brothers, Ronald and Steven Kensinger, both of Martinsburg; and a brother-in-law, W. Gene Henry, of Martinsburg.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline McConahy, and a brother, Donald Kensinger.

Friends will be received from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, with Pastor Pete Bergstresser officiating.

Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
