(Research):Joan M. Mort, age 69 of Derby, beloved wife of the late Jerauld A. Mort, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven following a short illness. Mrs. Mort was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y. on November 30, 1940 daughter of the late Hercule and Marian Richards Marchitelli. A resident of Derby since 1965, she was employed at Ashcroft Incorporated in Stratford for many years until her retirement. She was the loving mother of Colleen Sullivan of Waterbury and Paula Sanger and her husband, Howard of Parker, Colo.; cherished grandmother of Mary Kate Sullivan and Amy Sullivan of Waterbury and Patricia Sanger and Meghan Sanger of Parker, Colo.; and an aunt and friend to many. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Mark Sullivan. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the Spinelli-Ricciuti Funeral Home, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia with the Rev. Leonard Kvedas officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm. Mark Sullivan was born on July 9, 1956. He died on August 21, 2007, at age 51.
(Research):Mark J. Sullivan, 51, of Waterbury, died Tuesday August 21, 2007, surrounded by his family at Waterbury Hospital after a two and a half-year battle with colon cancer. He was the husband of Colleen (Mort) Sullivan to whom he was married to for twenty-four years.
Mr. Sullivan was born July 9, 1956 in Stamford, the son of the late Frank and Edna (Corson) Sullivan. Formerly of Danbury, he graduated Danbury High school, Class of 1974, and was a graduate of UConn Storrs in 1978, where he earned a degree in psychology. He served as a volunteer for VISTA at the North Carolina Corrections Department from 1974-1975 and worked as a mental health assistant for the State of Connecticut Mental Health and Addictions at Fairfield Hills Hospital, and then the Connecticut Valley Hospital from 1983-2006. He was a dedicated, hardworking father who devoted himself to his family. He was a longtime Uconn men's and women's basketball fan, as well as a Mets fan. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles.
Besides his wife, Colleen, he is survived by two daughters: Mary Kate and Amy Sullivan, both of Waterbury; a brother, Barry and his wife, Ellen Sullivan, of Middletown, N.Y.; his mother-in-law, Joan Mort, of Derby; his sister-in-law and her husband, Paula and Howard Sanger; two nephews, Patrick and Brian Sullivan, and two nieces, Patricia and Meghan Sanger.
Services for Mr. Sullivan will be held Friday, August 24, 2007, at 11 a.m., at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main Street, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit the funeral home Thursday evening, August 23, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, East Main Street, Waterbury.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, Meriden Executive Park, 538 Preston Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450.
