POQUOSON - Arthur V. "Binks" Holloway Jr., Vice-Mayor, 66, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 at M.C.V. Hospital in Richmond.

He retired from Northrup Grumman Shipbuilding, and was employed with C.S.C. as a consultant. Binks was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the George W. Amos Men's Choir, past-president of United Methodist Men, past chairman of the Council on Ministries, a member of the Staff Parish Committee, and was an Adult Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers; was chairman of the VML State Environmental Committee; was a lifetime member and Assistant Chief of the Poquoson Volunteer Fire & Rescue Dept.; was past-chairman of the Poquoson School Board; and was a member of Poquoson City Council for sixteen years, currently as Vice-Mayor.

Binks was a 1961 graduate of Poquoson High School, where he was an All-America Honorable Mention football player in 1960. He then graduated from the Newport News School of Design. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing, spending time with his family and following his grandchildren in sports, and serving his community and church. He was a member of the Laymen's Quartet.

Binks was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Emma and Vaden Holloway Sr.; and a sister, Ella Mae Hall.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jackie I. Holloway; his children, Tracy and Will Gibbs, Sandra and Tom Cannella; a brother, Robert Floyd Holloway; five sisters, Sue Gorde, Peggy H. Harris and husband, Julius, Betty H. Watkins, Mary H. Barr, and Faith H. Joye and husband, Kenny; three grandchildren, Star Holloway Gibbs, Thomas Joseph Cannella II, and Alyssa Gail Cannella; in-laws, Coston and Carrie Forrest; numerous special nieces and nephews; and his buddy, Drake.
