Born, November 1, 1909 and a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL died at a local hospital on Sunday, July 9, 2000. Mrs. Wittmann was the wife of the late Charles Wittmann. She taught in Mobile Public Schools for 29 years. She was a avid fisherman and a member of M.A.P.S., Government Street Presbyterian Church, D.A.R., Mobile Woman's Club, Forum Club, Mobile Optimist Club and other organizations. She is survived by Three children and there spouses, Sarah W. (Jim) Petty of Slidell, LA, Jerry W. (Bob) Weise of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Charles Michael (Mary) Wittmann of Harrisburg, N.C. Six grandchildren, Paige and Michael Petty, David Weise, Carolyn Fuller, and Charles and Heather Wittmann. Five, Great-grandchildren. Sister, Marjorie Cox Hightower of Clearwater, FL. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum with visitation one hour prior to service time. HIGHTOWER, MARJORIE W., 84, of Clearwater, died Saturday (Aug. 12, 2000) at Regency Oaks Nursing Center, Clearwater. She was born in Mobile, Ala., to Joseph A Walton and Sarah Ellen Milmine. She returned to the south after living in Columbus and Thornville, Ohio. She received a Bachelor Degree in Education and worked as a teacher before getting married. She was a homemaker and raised three children. Survivors include two sons, David Cox Jr., North Madison, Ohio,
and Frederick M. Cox, Thornville; a daughter, Carolyn Batcheller, Cleveland
Heights, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held on Friday at the Dawes Arboretum for Marjorie
Walton Cox Hightower. Mrs. Hightower was 84 when she died on August 12, 2000 in Clearwater, Florida. A tree was planted in her name on the grounds of Dawes Arboretum, Ohio.
Born in Mobile, Alabama, Marjorie Hightower was a graduate of Montevallo College in Alabama and a lifelong student of art in Columbus, where she lived for 27 years, and in Ozona, Florida where she lived since moving from Columbus in 1975.
An accomplished artist herself, she taught art classes and served as a Docent at the Columbus Museum of Fine Arts. She was an ardent naturalist and conservationist who supported the preservation of vanishing native Floridian plants and wildlife.
Marjorie Hightower is survived by her children; sons David O. Cox, Jr. and wife Rosemary of Madison, Ohio, Frederick M. Cox and wife Patty of Thornville, Ohio and daughter Carolyn Walton Cox and her husband William Batcheller of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She had 8 grandchildren; Cara S. Cox, Cindi Cox McCloskey, David O. Cox, III; Rebecca Cox Feldman, Frederick M Cox, Jr.; G. Brooks Batcheller, Meredith Walton Batcheller and Alexander Batcheller; and 7 great-grandchildren; Ariana and Minuet Mills, Ryan, Kyle, Neil, and Marjorie Feldman, and Emily Cox. She mourned the loss of granddaughter Christi Cox Mills in 1997.

COX David O. Cox, age 83, of Dunedin, Fla., died Wednesday April 18, 2001 at Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was born 8th of 8 kids in Columbus, Mississippi, to Warren Murdock Cox and Eva Violet Chapsky. He worked for more than 40 years for Ross Laboratories (later purchased by Abbott Laboratories), where he served as President starting in April 1969. He retired in 1983 as Corporate Vice President of Abbott. As a community leader, he was a 21 year Trustee and Past President of Children's Hospital and Children's Hospital Research Foundation and Board Chairman of Columbus State College. He was active in civic programs in Columbus, including the Buckeye Boys Ranch, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Columbus Metropolitan Career Center. Member of the board of the Central Ohio Red Cross Association, the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and Rotary Clubs of Columbus and Dunedin. He was the first Chairman of the Board of Infant Formula Council and a Trustee of Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was a Past Commodore and Heber Award recipient of Buckeye Lake Yacht Club. He was an Army veteran of WW II, serving in anti-aircraft artillery with the rank of Major. Survivors include his wife, June Headlee; sister, Betsy Cox Upsher; 2 sons, David O. Jr., Madison, Oh. and Frederick M., Buckeye Lake, Oh.; daughter, Carolyn Cox Batcheller, Cleveland Heights, Oh.; step-son, Marty Headlee, Westerville, Oh.; step-daughter, LaRae Anderson Peters, Clearwater, Fla.; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren.
