Thomas A. (Al) Dignan, 78, 912 Valley St., Minot, died Wednesday, October 8 in a Minot hospital. The funeral was held on Saturday, in St. Leos's Catholic Church, with burial in Rosehill Memorial Park, both Minot.
Mr. Dignan was born on January 16, 1908 at Coteau, ND, a son of Andrew and Anna Dignan. He was reared there until the family moved to St. Paul in 1919, and later to Waverly, MN, where they farmed.
In 1922, the family moved back to Bowbells, and he graduated from Bowbells High School. Mr. Dignan also attended Minot State College and Moler's barber College in Fargo. He taught school in Burke County for 8 years, and then barbered at Egeland, Bowbells and Kenmare. He then came to Minot and barbered. Later he became employed by Montgomery Wards and later by Openn's Bakery and City Bakery, the Heinnman's Bakery Kitchen, and retired from the later firm.
On January 7, 1942 he married the former Laura Doetzel at Kenmare. She died on May 15, 1982.
He was a member of St. Leo's Church, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus, the Minot Senior Citizens, and the American Association of Retired People.
Surviving are two sons, Robert of Fargo and John of Globe, AZ; four daughters, Ann Dignan of Blanco, TX, and Kathleen Robichaud of Warwick, RI, and Jean White of Marshall, IL, and Dorothy Cho of Minot; 14 grandchildren; sister, Kathryn Schumacher, Isanti, MN.

Interment was in Isanti Union Cemetery with arrangements by Strike Funeral Chapel, Isanti, MN.

Schumacher was born October 22, 1904.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine; sons, Charles and Dick of Minnesota; daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Carolyn) Hanson, Minnesota; and sisters, Mrs. Mike (Marie) Miller of Spokane, WA, and sister, Mary Cecelia, Bellevue, IL.

Carolyn was born Oct. 20, 1942, to William and Kathryn (Dignan) Schumacher, in Kenmare, ND.
Carolyn graduated from Marshall High School in St. Paul, Minn., in 1961.
Carolyn married Marvin Henry Hanson September 2, 1961 and they had a daughter, Cynthia Ann.
Carolyn and Marvin divorced in August 1994 in Minnesota. Carolyn married George Albert Smetana on Nov. 21, 1994, in Seattle, WA.
Carolyn is survived by: her husband, George, Garrison, ND; daughter, Cindy (Tom) Jacklen of Algona, Minn.; six grandchildren, Bethany (Andy) Meyer, Laura, Emily, Daniel, Jewelle, and Christopher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by: her parents; and two brothers, Richard in 1990 and Charles in 1991.
