(Research):His wife's name is Helen Gottenburg, born February 11, 1900, in MN. They married in ND. They had two children; Mary was born in Missoula, MT in 1934, and William was born in 1932 in MT.
Willis taught in School District #1, Missoula, MT. He taught creative writing, English, and Spanish. He started his community college career with Boise Junior College in 1947 and began his role as its Vice President in 1956. W.L. Gottenberg served as interim president of Boise State University in the spring of 1967, retiring in 1969. He remained active as both a member and hosting foreign dignitaries in Boise for the Governmental Affairs Institute at Boise State University until his death. He died on March 9, 1971.

(Research):WILLIAM GEORGE GOTTENBERG of Georgetown, Texas, and former resident of Houston, passed away April 25, 2010. Bill was born in Plentywood, Montana on May 8, 1932 to Helen Marguerite Moore and Willis L. Gottenberg.Bill enjoyed an adventurous, outdoor life in his formative years living in Montana, California and Idaho. He received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State in 1954 and earned a Master and Doctor of Engineering from Yale University in 1958.Bill married his wife, Doris, of 53 years, in 1956 and after graduating from Yale, the couple moved to California. Bill began his professional career as an engineer with TRW Systems in Redondo Beach working with solid rocket propellants. In 1963, Bill, his wife, and their two children moved to Colorado where Bill joined the faculty at the University of Colorado as a Professor of Mechanics and served as Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1970-1974.Until his retirement in 1994, Bill enjoyed a successful career as a Research Manager and Research Consultant at Shell Development Company in Houston, Texas.Bill was an avid private pilot and spent many happy times with friends at the Clover Field Airport near Houston. Bill's son, Will, inherited his love of flying and the two of them built an award winning, experimental aircraft together.Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife Doris, daughter Martha (Brian), son Will (Pam) and his beautiful granddaughters.A private memorial service will be held. The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation.

Long time resident of Marin and Sonoma Counties, died at home on September 19, 2003 at age 69, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mary was born on September 18, 1934 in Missoula, Montana to Willis L. and Helen Marguerite Gottenberg. She was raised in Boise, Idaho and attended Boise Junior College where she met her husband of fifty years, Paul Stanley Giles. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1955 with a Bachelor of Art Degree in Foreign Languages. She earned her Master of Arts Degree in 1957 from Washington State University and received her Doctorate in Romance Literature from the University of California at Berkeley in 1961.
Upon completing her Ph.D. in 1961, Mary began her collegiate teaching position as an Assistant Professor of Foreign Languages at California State University, Hayward. In 1964, Mary accepted a position as Associate Professor of Foreign Languages at California State University, Sacramento. Mary spent 33 years at spent 33 years at CSUS, becoming a Professor of Humanities and Religious Studies in 1972. During her tenure she was co-editor of Studia Mystica, a scholarly journal exploring themes related to mysticism and received "The Scholarly Achievement Award" during the 1986-87 school year honoring her dedication to excellence in education. She continued teaching as professor emeritus after her retirement.
Dr. Giles was a distinguished scholar, noted for her exceptional gifts as teacher, writer scholar, and mentor. She published numerous books, articles, entries and reviews in the areas of Christian mysticism, Spanish literature and women's spirituality. She frequently presented at scholarly conferences as well as lead contemplative retreats at several retreat houses. She enjoyed travel, horseback riding, & gardening.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00, Tuesday, September 23rd at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Sonoma. The Vigil will be on Monday evening, September 22nd at 7:00. The family will be establishing scholar funds at both the University of Idaho and Boise State University. Memorial contributions may also be made to one of Mary's preferred charities, "Doctors Without Borders".
