Page Number: 257. (Research):Laura McGing provided: I am part of the Westport McGings , with the Prof. Brian McGing being my uncle and my dad living in Luxembourg. Having said that I am not convinced that there is any known connection between all the Westport McGings, although you may well be able to tell me otherwise. Before this I worked as the Financial Controller of a private school in Bray (South of Dublin) and there was a teacher there called Genieve McGing also from Westport (very small world!). We did not appear to have any other connection other than our name and the Westport connection. However unlikely that seems. The Brendan McGings (taxi and funeral home) are connected to the Clock Tavern (Pub) McGings, but not to us. My Grandfather, James McGing (same as my dad and brother) was born in Westport in 1915. Daniel McGing of Bridge Street was his first cousin and he owned and ran the pub/shop, which has recently been sold (rented?) to Matt Molloy of the Chieftains. My Grandfather had a brother Padraig who was killed at the age of 3 by the only car around. Very sad, but he might show up on the Death Registers. Daniel s son, Michael McGing still lives on Bridge Street, Westport and he is very good about our line of McGings.

Worked for many years in Westport as a storekeeper and bookkeeper for his uncle (Jack Breheny). Eventually he moved to Kildare Town to a similar job.

Collections from United Kingdom. (Research):When Patrick Michael McGing was born on 19 September 1914 in Mayo, his father, John, was 27 and his mother, Agnes, was 27.

He moved to the UK in the 1930's, first living and working in Epsom, Surrey as a building contractor.
He then moved to Harpenden, Hertfordshire, first working for a company called Claridges & Hall, as a Pipe Layer & Drainage Contractor.

It was in Harpenden, that Patrick met a local girl, Edith Mary Ella Bates. They married on 22 July 1939 in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. On their marriage certificate Patrick (24yrs) is listed as a General Labourer, whilst Edith (25yrs) is a Laundry Hand. Patrick's father, John McGing, is listed as a Licensed Victualler. They lived at this time at 6 Klondyke Cottages, Harpenden, Hertfordshire.

During WWll, Patrick was a Lance Corporal in the RAF, serving in France and the Middle East. Patrick's Air Force number was listed on his son Michael's Birth Certificate as R.A.F. 964158.

After returning from the war, Patrick and Edith made their home at 53 Grove Avenue, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, and stayed their for the rest of their lives. They had two sons, Michael John, born 1945, and Terence James, born 1947.

Patrick joined Vauxhall Motors after the war, and was employed by them for the rest of his working life. Patrick returned to Ireland frequently over the years taking his sons Mick and Terry with him, to visit his brothers Daniel (known as Doonie), John (known as Jack), and sister Mary and their extended families. His other brother, Steve, lived in London, England.

Patrick was widowed when Edith died in 1992. He died not long afterwards, on 1 May 1994, in Saint Albans City Hospital, Hertfordshire. He was 79 years old.

Catherine ("Kitty") Gill was born in 1924 in Lecauvey, Westport, Mayo, IrelandG. She and John McGing were married. She died in December 2017, at age ~93.

Still lives in Kildare.
