(Research):2009 obituary. PORTLAND -- Margaret J. Joyce Concannon, 86, died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Maine Medical Center on May 24, 2009, following complications due to pneumonia. She was born on Jan. 22, 1923, in Portland, the daughter of Michael Joyce and Delia (Duffy) Joyce. Peggy attended Cathedral Grammar School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1941. Peggy previously worked for the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. She was also a volunteer for over 20 years at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen. She was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Peggy was also a member of the Irish-American Club. Peggy enjoyed family gatherings, her daily crossword puzzle and doing the Jumble. She was also a life-long Red Sox fan, and an avid reader. Peggy was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Mary A. Griffin in 2008; and her nephew, Martin Griffin in 1996. The family would also like to express a heartfelt thanks to the Manning and Quincannon families for their help and support, and to the Staff at Maine Medical Center. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 26, from 4-8 at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.

Bridget was born in Portland, Maine on June 13, 1921 to Irish immigrants, Delia Duffy and Michael Joyce. She attended Cathedral Grammar School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1940. Following graduation, she worked at the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P) Bakery and Office.
Bridget was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where she married Peter M. Malia on September 21, 1946. Bridget followed Peter in his military career, setting up households in Massachusetts, New York, Baltimore, Hawaii and Augusta, Maine. While in Baltimore, Bridget became an educational technician for the Baltimore County Public Schools. She supported students with disabilities for 20 years at Battle Monument Elementary and the Eastwood Center.
Following retirement, Bridget and Peter returned to Portland in 1987. Bridget became a volunteer at the St. Vincent De Paul Soup Kitchen. She was also a member of the Irish American Club. Bridget loved attending family gatherings, especially at her brother, Johnny's pool. She was also an avid reader, bingo player at St. Pius Church, and enjoyed trips to Cape Cod, Ireland, California, Germany, and Hawaii. Bridget was a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan and celebrated when they finally won the World Series.
Besides her parents, Bridget was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter, after 48 wonderful years of marriage; her sister, Mary Griffin; and brother in law, John Griffin; nephew, Martin Griffin; brother, Martin "Beano" Joyce; and sister-in-law, Helen (Hayden) Joyce; sister, Margaret Concannon; and brother in law, Martin "Mert" Concannon; and sister-in-law, Faye (McCormick) Joyce.

2008 obituary. PORTLAND - Mary A. Joyce Griffin, 90, of 84 Carlyle Road died peacefully surrounded by her family at The Cedars on April 17, 2008, following complications due to Alzheimer's disease. She was born on Jan. 16, 1918 in Portland, a daughter of Michael and Delia (Duffy) Joyce, attended Cathedral Grammar School and graduated from Cathedral High School. She previously worked for the A&P Warehouse and had been a teacher's aide at Cathedral Grammar School. She retired from the Maine Medical Center where she worked in the dietary aide department for 20 years. She was a communicant of St. Pius X Church. Mary was a member of the Cathedral and Cheverus Mothers Clubs, the Irish American Club, and the AMVETS Loring Post Auxiliary.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; her husband John Lefty Griffin in 1980; and by a son Martin Griffin in 1996.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at Cedar's Nursing Home. Visiting hours will be 4 - 8 p.m. on Monday, April 21st at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22nd at the funeral home, followed by a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave., Portland. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.

2010 obituary. PORTLAND -- Martin F. (Mert) Concannon, 88, of Portland, died peacefully at Sedgewood Commons on March 7, 2010, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Portland on July 6, 1921, the son of Michael and Annie (Curran) Quincannon. He attended St. Dominic's Grammar school and was a 1939 graduate of Cheverus High School. He also attend Western Reserve University. Martin was a communicant of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church, where he married Margaret Joyce Concannon on Aug. 25, 1956. Mert served his country in the United State Army and the United States Air Force during WWII, from 1941-1945. He started his career by working for the State of Maine liquor commission. Following his career with the liquor commission he went on to work for the post office. He retired as the head postmaster for Peak's Island in 1980. Mert volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen for nearly 20 years. He was a member of the Irish American Club, a member of the Andrew's Post #17, and he gathered the offertory collection at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for many years. He loved attending family gatherings, crossword puzzles, he was an avid reader, loved the dog races, and could speak many different languages, including German. Mert was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Margaret Concannon on May 24, 2009, after 52 wonderful years of marriage; a sister Catherine Manning, and brothers James, Henry, and John Quincannon, and Thomas and Bartley Concannon. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the Manning and Quincannon families for their help and support during this very tough time. Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 12, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. SOUTH PORTLAND - Faye L. Joyce, of Whitworth Drive, died peacefully on September 12, 2014 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Faye was born in Portland, Maine the daughter of Edward P. and Lillian Bombard McCormick. She attended Jackson Grammar School and Portland High School.
On January 27, 1950 she married John M. Joyce at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland.
Faye worked as a sales clerk for the Porteous, Mitchell & Braun Department Store on Congress Street for 25 years. She then went on to receive her CNA certification and worked at Seaside Nursing Center in Portland, retiring after more than 22years of service.
In her spare time, Faye, was a voracious reader enjoying books of all kinds. Faye loved to travel and had a wonderful trip to Ireland. Her favorite trip was always the Irish Village in Cape Cod with the Irish American Club. The party started as soon as they got in the bus! She loved to get dressed up and go dancing. She also enjoyed swimming, cooking, and working in her gardens. Faye was a wonderful hostess. She enjoyed having her family and friends for parties and cook-outs. She was famous for her potato salad, whoopee pies and chocolate chip cookies.
She looked forward to her monthly outings with her high school sorority sisters for lunch and laughter. Her greatest love, however, was the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her granddaughter and her three great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Joanne Coyne for the joy her lifelong friendship brought to Faye and also to Margaret Bearor for her love and support during Faye's illness.
Faye was predeceased by a brother Edward P. McCormick Jr. She is survived by her husband of 64 years John M. Joyce of South Portland; two daughters Katherine and her husband David Twombly of South Portland and Regina L. Joyce of South Portland; a granddaughter Melissa-Faye Norwood of Blue Hill; three great grandchildren A. Joseph, Tucker and Katherine-Faye Norwood all of Blue Hill; two sisters in law Kay Joyce of Portland and Bridget Malia of Portland; nieces, Joyce Malia, Jeannie Malia, Lisa Gale and a nephew, John Griffin.
Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 9:15 am Wednesday followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland.
