Mary L. Connolly of Beverly Farms died peacefully, Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Kaplan Family House in Danvers, surrounded by members of her family.
Born in Beverly on October 23, 1922, daughter of the late Austin F. and Delia (Healey) Lydon, she grew up in Beverly Farms, attended Saint Margaret's School and Saint Mary's High School in Beverly. She married Thomas H. Connolly on January 21, 1943. The pair loved to dance, and in their early years enjoyed venues played by the likes of Doris Day and Tommy Dorsey.
Mary accompanied Tom, an officer in the US Army, on his stateside postings and his tours in postwar Germany, moving 19 times during Tom's military career.
After Tom's retirement from the service, they settled in Beverly Farms where they owned and operated Burton Hardware Store with Dick and June Anderson.
Mary was a faithful and devoted parishioner of St Margaret's Church in Beverly Farms, and of St Mary's Church of Longboat Key when she wintered in Florida. She loved cruising the waters of the North Shore with Tom on their cabin cruiser the Footloose. Mary was an accomplished chef, reading cookbooks like novels, and she was renowned for her Christmas Eve dinner buffets. She was a prolific knitter and crocheter producing many an Afghan blanket as well as sweater sets for babies of relatives and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Leekley and her husband, Edward of Beverly Farms, two grandchildren, Elisabeth of St Petersburg, FL and John Leekley and his wife, Katherine of Chestertown, MD, a great grandson, Jason Thomas Leekley of MD, a brother-in-law, Jack Connolly of Manchester by the Sea, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Susan E. Connolly.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret's Church, 672 Hale St., Beverly Farms, Saturday, June 15th 2013 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in the Beverly Farms Cemetery.
