Berwinsdale - A slight change in funeral arrangements for Ruel P. Root, well known resident of this vicinity, who died early Saturday was announced by family members this morning. Instead of the services being held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Heber H. Straw, near here, at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the cortege will leave the Straw residence at 1:30 p.m. and move to the Bethel M. E. Church at Hegarty's crossroads where services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday, Dec. 31, with Rev. O. L. Gordon officiating. Interment will be made in the Hegarty's Cross Roads Cemetery. April 5, 2005 at the center.
He was born on July 17, 1922 in Clearfield, a son of the late Melvin and Virginia Mae (Root) Owens, Sr.
Mr. Owens was employed by CE Chapel in New York and by Eastwood Sporting Center in Syracuse, NY. In addition, he was a taxi driver in Clearfield.
A veteran of the US Army, he served during World War II.
He was one of eight children including his sister, Doris Carns and his brothers, Richard, Bruce, Paul, Franklin, Blaine and Melvin C. Owens, Jr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith (King) Owens in 1987 and whom he married in Syracuse, New York.
Graveside services will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield on Friday at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Jay E. Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and the Clearfield VFW Post #1785 Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to charity of one's choice,

PHILIPSBURG - Bruce "Pappy" Owens, 77, of Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg, died at the village Saturday, June 3, 2006.
Born July 17, 1928, at Clearfield, he was a son of Melvin C. Owens Sr. and Virginia (Root) Owens.
Mr. Owens was a member of the former Mount Hope United Methodist Church.
He had played in area country music bands over the years, including the "Green Valley Gang" and "Dick Houser's Band" and was involved with 4-H for many years.
Mr. Owens retired from Sky Haven Coal Co., where he worked as a drag line operator for more than 20 years. Prior to that he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for James T. Crissman Contracting, Lingle Coal Co., Thompson Coal Co. and at Nick Minute Gas Station for several years.
He is survived by four children, David Owens of California, Kathryn Hile and her husband, Craig, and Thomas Owens and his wife, Sylvia, all of Clearfield, and Cheryl Gaut and her husband, Joseph, of Karthaus; 10 grandchildren, Lonnie Owens, Clint Owens, MaryRuth Owens, Cody Owens, DonnaJean Owens, Melissa Undercofler, Dr. Emily Ackerman, Rebecca Hile, Bruce Owens and Jeffrey Owens; and eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a brother, Franklin Owens of Baltimore and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel Owens, whom he wed April 3, 1948, at Mount Joy United Methodist Church, and who died May 3,1993; a great-granddaughter; five brothers, Melvin, Richard, Elaine, Paul and Heber Owens; and a sister, Doris Cams.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at The Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Kenneth Leonard officiating.
Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home tomorrow from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until the hour of services.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the family of Bruce Owens, in care of Kathryn Hile, 1309 Overlook Drive, Clearfield, PA 16830; or to Windy Hill Village Activities Fund, P.O. Box 551, Philipsburg, PA 16866.

(Research):Marlene M. Graham, 77, of Clearfield passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020 at her residence.
Born Nov. 4, 1942 in Clearfield, she was a daughter of Melvin and Mae (Bloom) Owens.
Marlene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Curwensville.
She was a notary for Graham Motors for over 20 years, and had been employed by the former Long Dairy and Burger King.
Marlene was devoted to her family. She enjoyed watching her husband, son and grandson race and was their biggest fan. She enjoyed listening to Alan Jackson and Elvis Presley.
On June 6, 1960 she married Sheldon Graham, who preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2017.
Marlene is survived by a son, Sheldon (Tammy) Graham Jr. of Clearfield; a daughter, Laurie (David) Lansberry of Port Orange, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Sheldon (Crystal) Graham III of Clearfield, Tiffany Graham of Clearfield, Kristy Graham of Woodland, Sheena (Fisayo) Ojo of Samsula, Fla. and Melanie Davis of Port Orange, Fla.
Also surviving are nine great grandchildren, Lexi and Emily Graham, Blake Graham and companion Emily Bohan, Shay and Luke Graham, Marayo, Yeni, and Tayo Ojo; along with a great-great-granddaughter, Gracie Mae Graham; and two sisters, Peggy Shaw of Clearfield, Sarah Byers and companion Warren Peter of Indiana; and a brother, Clair Owens of Clearfield.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale. Pastor Dan Osterhout will preside over the service.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Stoneville Cemetery, Clearfield.

(Research):Sheldon "Shed" Lee Graham, 74, of Clearfield died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation in Curwensville.
Born June 17, 1942 in Pittsburgh, he was the only child of Clair and Ruby (Hassinger) Graham.
On June 6, 1960, he wed the former Marlene Owens in Hagerstown, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Graham; son, Sheldon L. Graham Jr. and his wife, Tammy of Clearfield; and daughter, Laurie L. Landsberry and husband, Dave of Smyrna Beach, Fla.
Surviving are his grandchildren, Sheena Ojo and her husband, Fisayo, Melanie Davis, Sheldon Graham III, Tiffany Graham, and Kristy Graham and her boyfriend, Jeff Maines and eight great-grandchildren, Blake, Shay and Luke Graham, Morayo, Yeni and Tayo Ojo and Emily and Lexi Graham.
The funeral service will be Monday at the Reed Funeral Home in Houtzdale with Pastor Dan Osterhout officiating.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A Masonic Funeral Service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and conducted by Masonic Lodge No. 515 in Osceola Mills.
Burial will be in the Stoneville Cemetery in Clearfield.
