Biography

James Gavin was born on October 14, 1960 in MassachusettsG. He died on August 8, 2015, at age 54, in AlaskaG.
(Research):Of King Salmon, Alaska, passed away August 8, after a brief illness. Jim is a graduate of Saugus High School, Class of 1978. After graduating Jim went on to work in a variety of places including Montana and the Aleutian Island ADAK just to mention a few. Jim came to Alaska in 1982 and found the job and state of his dreams. Jim was Chief of Maintenance of Katmai National Park of Alaska which covers over 14 million acres. On June 15, 2004 Katmai Park received a distress call of a sinking patrol boat in the cold water lake of Naknek. Chief of maintenance Jim Gavin along with two other park employees responded to the distress call. Jim launched a 28 foot open boat along with the other maintenance workers onboard continuing ten miles through open water and deteriorating conditions and arrived at the site of the 26 foot patrol boat sinking below the surface. With great difficulty and bravery Jim and his team pulled both park employees to safety. For his act of heroism James M. Gavin was granted the Valor Award of the Department of the Interior on February 2, 2005. Jim was predeceased by his mother Mary E. (Scannell) Gavin who passed away in April of 2014. He is survived by loving father Martin T. Gavin of Saugus, his devoted life partner and companion of eight years Brandi Hoffer also of King Salmon, AK, his daughter Jillian Bourque and two grandsons, Joshua & J.J. of Saugus, his sisters and brothers, Susan Gavin, Mary Currie and her husband Rich all of Saugus, Martin Gavin of Stoneham, Daniel Gavin of Groveland and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his friends from Alaska who were more than friends, they were his Alaskan family. Jim was a man of integrity and humor, unstoppable loyalty to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jimmy Gavin will be greatly missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., Saugus on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St., Saugus at 10:30 a.m. Interment at a later date.

FISHERS - Patricia "Patty" Schultz-Troeger, 49, of Fisher, IN, formerly of Garrett, IN, died Monday, August 9, 2010, in her home.

She was born May 9, 1961, in Evergreen Park, IL, to George W. and Marjorie E. (Gavin) Schultz, who survive in Garrett, IN.

Patty was a travel consultant for over 30 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Collier, South Bend, IN; a son, Ross Troeger, Indianapolis, IN; and a granddaughter, Madelyn Collier, South Bend.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010, in Thomas Funeral Home, Garrett, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Andrew Nazareth at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garrett. Burial will follow at Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett.

Memorials are to St. Joseph Catholic School or Church.
