SAUGUS - Mr. Martin T. Gavin, age 88, died on Sunday, July 30th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Massachusetts, USA.

Mr. Gavin leaves his loving children, Martin F. Gavin of NH, Daniel Gavin of Groveland, Susan Gavin of Saugus and Mary Currie and her husband Richard of Saugus;
nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren;
three brothers, Paul Gavin of WV, Edward Gavin of SC, James Gavin of Saugus;
three sisters, Marjorie Schultz of IN, Julie Roughneen of Lakeville, Kathleen Carban of MO.
He is predeceased by his son James Gavin, two brothers and two sisters.

(Research):James F. Gavin, of Saugus, died February 8 at Massachusetts General Hospital. Raised and educated in Saugus, he was the son of the late Martin and Catherine (O'Neill) Gavin and the devoted husband of Trudy (Cronin) Gavin with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

Jim served in US Army and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Northeastern University and Cambridge College. A former educator with Saugus Public Schools, he retired after 31 years of teaching. Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time at his home on Cape Cod.

He was pre-deceased by siblings Bridget Lally, Ann Raworth, Marty, Jack, Joe and Ed Gavin.

(Research):Edward "Ed" Patrick Gavin, son of the late Martin and Catherine Gavin, dearly beloved husband of Mary Jane, passed away on October 1st of 2018 in Lexington, SC.

The relations and friends of Ed are invited to attend his Mass and Christian burial on Friday, October 12th at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church located at 2350 Augusta Highway in Lexington, SC 29072. The Interment will follow the Mass at the Columbarium at CCC. All are invited to a reception in the parish hall.

Ed is survived by his wife Mary Jane Gavin, 2 sons, Todd Gavin and Thomas Gavin, and 4 grandchildren Morgan, Marian, Hennelly and Michael Gavin. Along with his brothers, Paul Gavin (Pam) and Jim Gavin (Trudy). His sisters Kathleen Carbin, Marge Schultz, and Julie Roughneen.

He was predeceased by his siblings Marty Gavin, Bridget Lally(John), John Gavin (Carol), Joe Gavin (Jeanne), Anne Roworth.

After graduating Saugus High School in Saugus, Mass., Ed served in the US Army in Thailand in preparation for the war in Vietnam. After his service in the Army he graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He retired from American Electric Power Co in Virginia. Ed and Mary Jane moved to Lexington, SC to be near family.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, served as a Eucharistic Minister and other capacities at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He volunteered for the DAV and transported fellow disabled veterans to hospitals and other medical facilities for several years. He devoted himself to his faith and Christian values and will be remembered by his personal catchphrase, "make somebody happy today." He made his family and friends happy on Lake Murray. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad.

She was born the fifth child of Martin and Catherine (O'Neill) Gavin on March 20, 1932, in Lynn, Massachusetts, and was the devoted wife of George for 63 years, who preceded her in death.

Marge grew up in Saugus, Massachusetts, and after high school she moved to Chicago, where she met the love of her life, George. They relocated to Garrett with their family in 1966, where she was a long-time and active member of St. Joseph Church.

She was a full-time homemaker and loved to travel, especially to visit family. She enjoyed all family events and gatherings.

Her daughter, Patricia Schultz Troeger, preceded her in death.

She was predeceased by siblings, Bridget Lally, Anne Raworth, Martin Gavin, Jack Gavin, Joe Gavin, Jim Gavin and Ed Gavin.

Marge will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving mother and grandmother, and "favorite aunt", to many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Jim Shafer officiating.

Visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m., on Wednesday, at the church.

Burial will follow at Christian Union Cemetery.
