James Russell Lawrence

Wellsville - James Russell Lawrence, 69, of Wellsville, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Kindred Hospital-Heritage Valley. He was born September 5, 1941, in Youngstown, the son of the late James A. and Etheland (Vetrovec) Lawrence. Jim graduated from Chaney High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Navy in Washington D.C. and Pensacola, Fl, from 1959 to 1963 , where he also served as a Navy photographer. He was employed as an insurance agent for the Prudential Life Insurance Company for ten years. He and his wife Pat were also the owners of Jim and Pat's Village Store in Elkton from 1979-1989. Most recently, Jim retired from Save-A-Lot where he worked part time as the produce manager. He was also a member of the Wellsville Historical Society and the Coast Guard Auxiliary of Pittsburgh. Jim enjoyed photography and geo-caching for the museum in Steubenville. He was also a registered representative for the Medicare Supplement Program. Along with Pastor Bill Rudder, Jim started a volunteer organization in Wellsville.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Marcett) Lawrence, whom he married December 31, 1970; and three daughters: Ingrid Burnette and her husband Kevin of Barboursville, W.Va, Dominique Strohl and her husband Tim of Newark, Oh, and Jennifer Lawrence of Oakland, CA. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Lawrence. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Rudder of the New Life Worship Center officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Tri-State Burial Group at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St. in Wellsville.
