James Jennings born in Delhi, Illinois, Son of Patrick and Mary McGing. Litttle is know of his youth, except he remained in Delhi. His mother died when he was born in 1866, or shortly thereafter and his father remarried in 1869 and moved to St. Louis with his new wife some time in the early 1870's. James or Big Jim as he was called, lived at one time with his Uncle John Jennings as was remembered by Percy Jennings, a cousin. He probably lived with a neighboring family and worked for his room and board as a farm hand. James Jennings, a retired farmer of the Delhi neighborhood, died Tuesday afternoon at Alton Memorial Hospital. A native of the Delhi area, he was 72 years old. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Jennings to whom he was married 48 years ago; and 6 daughters and three sons and 14 grandchildren. The daughters are Mrs. Bernard Weinrich of Alton, Mrs. Mary King of Camas, Washington; Mrs. Arthur Washburn of East ST. Louis; Mrs. William Martin of Paynesville, Mo; Mrs. Fred Graner of Brighton and Mrs. Hazel Scott of Seattle, Wash. The sons are James and Lester of Delhi, and Maurice of House Springs , Mo. The body was taken to the Jacoby funeral parlor at Jerseyville. The funeral will be Friday morning, with requiem mass at St. Francis Xavier's Church in Jerseyville. Burial will be in Godfrey Cemetery.
