Mrs. Betty Jean McGing, 75, of LaPorte, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at 8:16 a.m. at LaPorte Hospital.

She was born Nov. 11, 1931, in LaPorte to Cecil L. and Blanche P. (Stiendrager) Gribble.

Mrs. McGing retired after nine years of service as a secretary for American Home Foods. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of LaPorte where she was a member of the Woman's Society and taught adult Sunday school and Bible reading. She was also a member of the Falcons. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

On May 4, 1974, in Mishawaka, she married John T. McGing, who survives.

Also surviving are six sons, Phil (Terri) Buckmaster of Walkerton, Michael (Karen) Buckmaster of LaPorte, Richard (Lynn) Mohr of Tennessee, Delbert "Skip" Fry of Walkerton, Keith (Tracy) Fry of Elkhart and Jeff Edie of Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Bell and Carol Hudson, both of LaPorte, Joyce Nablo of Union Mills and Gail Munoz of Arizona; and two brothers, Alan Gribble of North Carolina and Danny Gribble of Hebron.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Doug Hadley officiating. Friends may call Friday from 10 a.m. until the service. Cremation will take place.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1225 Michigan Ave., LaPorte, IN 46350; or the American Lung Assoc., 115 W. Washington St., Suite 1180, South Indianapolis, IN 46240.
