Abilene Reporter-News, Abilene, Texas, Tuesday, April 11, 1989, page 16:
"COLUMBUS Ohio - Ellen "Nellie" Ronan Phillips, 86, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Victory Church. Burial will be at St Joseph Cemetery, directed by Egan-Ryan Funeral Directors,

She retired after 40 years from Ohio Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of Pioneer Club and a former member of the St. Agatha Pariah in Columbus.

Survivors include four children including, Phyllis Brophy of Abilene; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren."

A passenger list for the SS Columbia sailing from Glasgow, Scotland on 6 Jun 1920, shows John Ronan (48, from Ireland, Gas worker) and Nellie Ronan (17, from Scotland, needle worker). Their last permanent address was Glasgow, Scotland. Their destination was New Castle, PA. The nearest relative was John's wife, Mary Ronan of 2 Kelvin St., Glasgow, Scotland.

A passenger list for the SS Columbia sailing from Glasgow, Scotland 4 Jun 1921, shows Mary Ann Ronan (41, housewife), Patrick Ronan (21, iron worker), Catherine Ronan (15), Mary Ann Ronan (15), John Ronan (9), Thomas Ronan (7), Henrietta Ronan (6), Martin Ronan (4), James Ronan (1 yr., 6 months), and Julia Ronan (6 weeks). They are born in Scotland. Their last permanent address was Maryhill, Scotland. Their destination was New Castle, PA. The nearest relative was Mary's sister, Mrs. Agnes Costello, 188 Main St., Maryhill, Glasgow. [Julia Ronan was not in the 5 Apr 1930 New Castle, PA census.]

Ellen Agnes Ronan married William L. Phillips on 31 Aug 1929 in Hamilton Co., OH. Ellen was born in Scotland and was age 27 on 1 Jun 1929. Her parents here John Ronan and Mary Mulroy. Ellen, a telephone operator, was residing at the Hotel Broadway in Hamilton County, OH, at the time of the marriage.

Ellen and William's children included: William Donald Phillips, Phyllis Lou Phillips Brophy, Ronald Lee Phillips and Katherine "Kay" C. Phillips Lemaster.

Misc: In the 1901 Census, Ellen's parents, John (24) and Mary (21) were in Maryhill, Glasgow, Lanarkshire County, Scotland (Morrison St); Patrick Ronan was 18 months old. They were also on Morrison St. in the 1911 Census. As known, Mary Anne Mulroy Ronan was born 1879 in Bannockburn, Stirlingshire, Scotland.

William L. Philips was born on February 24, 1900 in TennesseeG. He and Ellen Agnes Ronan were married on August 31, 1929 in OhioG. He died on March 21, 1969, at age 69, in OhioG.

William Leonard Phillips was born to Floyd L. Phillips and Delia Watson Phillips on 24 Feb 1900 in Rafter, Monroe Co., TN (Rafter post office closed in 1914, so addresses became Tellico Plains). In their Aug 1907 Cherokee claims applications, Williams's parents indicated he was born 14 Feb; however, his delayed birth certificate and other records show 24 Feb.

The 1900 and 1910 Censuses show Leonard Phillips living with his parents in Monroe County, TN. As seen in their 12 Sep 1918 draft registration, William Leonard Phillips and his brothers Travis Thomas and Melvin McClure Phillips moved to Akron, Summit Co., OH and worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

William L. Phillips married Ellen Agnes Ronan on 31 Aug 1929 in Hamilton Co., OH. William was born in TN and was age 29 on 24 Feb 1929. His parents were Floyd L. Phillips and D. Watson. William, a railroader, was residing at the Hotel Broadway in Hamilton County, OH, at the time of the marriage.

The 13 Apr 1940 Census (New Castle City, Lawrence Co., PA) has William L. Phillips (age 40, born in TN), Nellie A. Phillips (37, Scotland, naturalized), Phyllis L. Phillips (9, PA), William D. Phillips (8, PA), Ronald L. Phillips (5, PA) and Catherine C. Phillips (3, PA). William was a fireman in the steam railroad industry. In 1935, they were living in Darlington, Beaver Co., PA. Per Ellen's father's memorial, William and Ellen were in New Castle in 1937.

The 16 Feb 1942 draft registration for William Leonard Phillips shows him living in New Castle, PA. His POC and Employer was Pa. Railroad – E and A Division, New Castle; he worked at E and A Division, Lawrence, PA.

Patrick Mulroy was born in 1837 in Mayo, IrelandG. He and Helen were married.
