John "Tom" McGing, 84, of La Porte, formerly of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at 1:50 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Miller's Health & Rehab, La Porte.

He was born Nov. 16, 1937, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to John T. McGing Sr. and Eleanor (Schmidt) McGing.

John graduated from Washington High School, St. Paul, Minnesota, and was a member of the Polish Falcons Nest 564, American Legion Post 83 and former member of the Lions Club, La Porte, Indiana. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. John previously was the owner of Wash King, La Porte. He was a current member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved to garden and grow unusual flowers and made things that made life easier and never sold any of them.

On Dec. 4, 2007, in La Porte, Indiana, he married Beverly A. (Eyler) McGing, who survives.

Also surviving are his two children, Stephanie Brown of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Jeffery (Kim) Eide of Roberts, Minnesota; one brother, Terry (Patty) McGing of Maplewood, Minnesota; three stepsons, Phillip (Terry) Buckmaster of Walkerton, Indiana, Michael (Melody) Buckmaster of La Porte, Indiana, and Keith (Tracy) Buckmaster of Elkhart, Indiana; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding in death were his parents; and one sister, Sheila.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at La Porte First United Methodist Church, 1225 Michigan Ave., La Porte, Indiana, 46350, with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, 219-362-3100, is caring for the arrangements.
