James "Jim" W. McGinn 68 of Aston, died on July 20, 2018. Born in Chester, Jim was raised in the McCafferty Village section of the city before moving to Aston as a young boy. Devoted to his township, Jim remained in Aston serving as a township commissioner for over 39 years. He was the president of the board for ten years from 1996 to 2005 and also served as vice president. Jim dedicated his life to Aston and spent special attention to issues related to police and senior citizens, chairing both committees. He was also an honorary lifetime member of the Aston Township fire department. While a driving force in more community projects than one can count, Jim's dedication and fundraising prowess led the way to the completion of the Aston Community Center in 1997 and the Aston Township Veterans Memorial Garden at Five Points in 2009. He had a strong view of the importance of local government and was deeply involved in the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners, serving various roles on the executive committee for two decades and as president for 2000-2001.

His pinnacle moment with the organization came in 2001 when Governor Ridge named him township commissioner of the year. He worked as an account executive for RT Opendaker & Sons Trash Removal.

He was the son of the late Daniel P. and Beatrice (nee Brown) and brother of the late Joan Klinger, Daniel P. McGinn Jr., and John X. Jim is survived by his son Matthew J. McGinn (Melissa); siblings Catherine "Kay" Gaspari (Rocco), Joseph and Patrick and his grandchildren, Maggie and Luke. Jim was a member of St. Joseph's parish in Aston. Visitation will be at the Aston Community Center, 3270 Concord Road, Aston on Monday evening, July 30 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, July 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 3255 Concord Ave, Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery in Chester Heights.
