She was born in Portsmouth and was the widow of George Arthur Olsen. She retired from civil service at Little Creek Amphibious Base. She was a member of Bayside Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Shea of Spotsylvania; a stepson, George C. Olsen of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Irene H. Tigner of Chesapeake; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth A. Craft; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly A.G. Briand.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by the Rev. Will Lowrance. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a charity of one's choice. The family will gather at 4211 Genoa Crescent, Chesapeake, VA 23321 after the service to greet family and friends.
