He was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and proudly served as the Grand Marshall in the 2009 Detroit's St. Patrick's Day Parade. No matter the cause or organization he was always there to provide donations and support to anyone in need.

He was survived by six children: Michael, Stephen, Ellen Marie (Teschendorf) who preceded him to heaven, Gerald, Bridget (Hines) and Patrick along with 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
