Obituary from The Independent Record:

Dorothy Dalbec died March 18, 2000, in the care of the loving staff of the Crest Nursing Home in Butte, Mont., and surrounded by her family. She had been a resident there and had enjoyed daily visits from her family.

Dorothy was born in Basin, Mont., on June 8, 1911, to Charles Alvin Berry and Lillie Charlotte Becker Berry. She attended elementary school in Basin and graduated with honors from Boulder High School. She married Fred Dalbec on Jan. 27, 1931, and together they raised five children.

Mom was a hard worker and she made the best of every situation, always managing to make ends meet. She cooked and cleaned for construction crews, miners, Catholic priests and patients at the Montana Developmental Center. She also worked as a sales clerk for Firestone, Burr's and Hennessy's department stores; bartender; receptionist at the Arts Chateau and coffee cart lady for Montana Power. Her most recent job was as a Foster Grandparent for children in the Kennedy Elementary School, Butte High School and the Butte YMCA. Her travels took her to various towns in Montana and Arizona.

Some of her favorite pasttimes were going to picnics, sitting by a campfire, working crossword puzzles, taking car rides in the country, talking to animals, playing poker machines and visiting with friends and family. Mom looked for and spoke of the good in every person she met.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred, who died in 1960 as the result of an automobile accident; her parents; her brother, Robert Berry; and her sister, Charlotte Kennedy. She is survived by: her sister, Frances Etzwiler of Townsend; her children and spouses, Dorrie and Jack Bolton and Donna and Tony Jangula of Walkerville; Marguerite Leason and Mary Jo and Larry Stahl of Lakeside, Ariz., and Fred and Vernetta Dalbec of Helena, Mont.

She was loved by her many grandchildren and their spouses: John Bolton, Sis and John Coates, Chris and Bob Naugle, Lynda and Ron DeWitte, Kathy and Ken Schelin, Tony and Kathy Jangula, Debbie and Joe Rask, Charley and Diane Jangula, Joe and Amy Jangula, Fred Jangula, Barbara and Jim Scott, Mike Hardgrove, Pat and Amy Hardgrove, Jim and Darla Hardgrove, Terry Kay and Jack Nosco, Rick Dalbec, Gina and Bob Korizek, Mike and Lauri Dalbec, Marie and Scott Puryear, and Shayne Mathews. Also 38 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren survive her.

We all remember your spe cial smile and we will miss you Mom. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

Parish vigil services for Mrs. Dalbec will be conducted this evening at 7 p.m. in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be conducted Monday morning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with The Rev. Tom Haffey officiating. A reception will follow in Wayrynen-Richards Community Center. The family requests that memorials be made to The Humane Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
