Thomas Michael McGinn Sr., 94, long-time resident of Chester, passed away peacefully in Peoria, AZ, on October 17, 2012. Beloved son of the late James Patrick McGinn and Catherine Mary O'Malley, he was born in Chester on August 17, 1918.
Devoted husband to Jeanette Blanton who died on October 21, 1977. Married on September 20, 1944 in Hattiesburg, MS, they had 5 children, Thomas Jr., Jeanie, Joseph, Janice and Robert.
A graduate of Chester High School, he enlisted in the Army in 1944, served his country during W.W. II and was honorably discharged in 1947 at the rank of Platoon Sergeant. He was employed at Sun Oil Company in Marcus Hook, and later at McGinn Beer Distributing in Chester. Tom, nicknamed "Hoss" by his family and friends, retired at the Jersey shore. In his later years, he lived with his daughter and son-in-law in Arizona, and traveled the world. He was an avid Phillies, Red Sox and Eagles fan, who enjoyed bowling, weight training, walking and basketball. He was well renowned for his back yard foul shot. He cherished his English Bulldog, Lulubelle, who died last year. In recent months, he found great comfort and solace with Chocolate Labs, Misti and Megan, lying by his side. Thomas will be greatly missed and remembered fondly for his fun, easy going personality and great sense of humor. Always the life of the party, he touched many lives in his journey through life. Brother of the late John McGinn, James (Bus) McGinn and Mary McGinn Steppke. He remained close to his family throughout the years, and maintained a strong and proud Irish heritage.
Survivors: 2 daughters Jeanie (David) Griffiths of Phoenix and Janice (Albert) Benicky of Atlanta; son Robert (Lisa) McGinn of NJ; 3 grandchildren Tracey McGinn, Madison Benicky and Joanna McGinn. Pre-deceased by 2 sons, Thomas Jr. who died December 2008 and Joseph who died April 2010.
Services are private. Donations may be sent in Thomas' name to Animal Welfare, 47 S. Delsea Drive, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210 or to MCSO Animal Safe Haven, 102 W. Madison, Phoenix, AZ 85003.
