It is our painful duty to announce the death of Mr. Patrick McGing which took place at his residence, Bridge Street, Westport, on Thursday morning after a long illness. Mr. McGing was one of the principal merchants in the town and the news of his demise at the comparatively early age of 60 will be received with much regret by the large circle with whom he had Business Relations. During his illness he had all the consolation of Religion. We tender to his afflicted widow and bereaved (?) our sympathy. The funeral in Aughagower will take place this day at 1 O'clock. Died on Bridge Street,

"Our Family had an interest in this book also in that My grandfather Patrick McGing used have a Stall on fair day's at the handball alley in Tourmacady village. This stall would have sold Groceries and "Porter and Whiskey" At the scene of the Murders in Mamtrasna. Porter or Whiskey Bottles with my Grandfathers label's on the Bottles were found. He was questioned by the Police as to who he might have sold the liquor to. My Aunt May McGing was always very upset by these events and would not talk about them. Legend has it that the sun has never shone in the village of Mamtrasna since the occasion of those foul murders. One of those convicted was hanged in Galway Jail in the wrong and the Jail and its graveyard are now inclosed in the grounds of Galway Cathedral which was opened by Cardinal Cussing of Boston in the 1960s."
