(Research):Oldest McGing
The question is how does this person fit with the theoretical lineage DNA is proposing? As one of the oldest, he/she could be a sibling to others we know of but are unaware of the sibling relationship. If a Male McGing/McGinn Ging of this line could Y-DNA test at least a 37 (but must stress 67 is better) we'd know more and could triangulate back to the shared ancester. Moving earlier in time here is all conjecture, but looking for evidence and DNA is a key piece.

Per Aunt May, there was a Myles McGing who had a son names James. But there was also another James in Westport. This James had to be the son of a different man, so my conjecture is that Myles had a brother who also had a son named James. And based on the frequeny of James in this scenario, I'm going to name this completely conjectural parent of Myles James McGing and his other son James McGing and his grandson (the 2nd James McGing that Aunt May said was around when Myles and his son existed) is also a James.

PURE SPECULATION based on Aunt May's story.

In other words, I doni't really know if their names were Michael or James or whatever, but someone was this person and because the DNA says we are related, we know, no matter what their names, they existed in this kind of relationship.

So we can agree on a name but the point remains, we share this man in our different lineages.

I had some date inconsistencies with John McGing m Bridget Lyons so created a 3rd brother to hang this family group off of with dates taht are reasonable.

Just a construct.

Reposing at Aughagower Community Centre on Friday evening from 6.30 with removal at 9 o'clock to St. Patrick's Church, Aughagower.

The death took place recently of Paddy McGing, from Tonlegee, Aughagower, Westport, aged 69. The following is the Eulogy given at Paddy's funeral Mass by his daughter, Veronica Mannion.

"Paddy was born in Tonlegee, Aughagower in October 1946; the fifth child of Paddy and Bridie McGing. Dad lived most of his life in Tonlegee. He spent five years working in Birmingham where he made many lifelong friends.

After his return from England, he met a young woman by the name of Jane Feehan at a local dance. After a year of courting, they married on June 1, 1974.

A year later their first child Caroline arrived. The following year I (Veronica) arrived. Having completed their modern family they took a break for a few years and then decided to go for the boy. However, Lisa arrived in the summer of 1979. They were not people to give up easily and Joseph arrived in the summer of 1980. Tomas and Paul followed this. The McGing house was now even.

Dad was a great sheep man. He was always generous with his time and knowledge. I have many memories of him going to help neighbours especially with sheep but also with other farming activities. The neighbours were generous with their time too; everyone helped everyone else. The Meitheal system suited dad because he liked the company.

Outside of farming dad had many interests - dancing, darts and cards. They said he was the best man to jive with two women. Unfortunately, his poor children have 12 left feet.

He loved the game of darts and played in many leagues. He was well known for his involvement in both the Westport and Aughagower area and Birmingham. I have been told that many a night he was wheeled out to win a final game decider. I didn't follow his career but I know from the amount of trophies at home he won alot of competitions.

He loved the game of 25. He would travel to get to a game and he had great luck when he played. He once told me that a person's real character came out when playing. If you were tight, sly, mean or honest it all came out in a game of cards. I think he loved meeting his friends, winning and win he did. I can remember one Christmas he had won six turkeys and my mother had gotten her turkey from Allergan. My mother suggested that he give a turkey to one of his sisters. His reply was 'If I give to one I have to give to them all'. Thankfully all six got turkeys that Christmas.
In the early days, the ballroom circuit and show bands was Mum and Dad's scene. Dad liked good country music. They loved a good band and a jive. If the band were good, he would not leave the dance floor. Women like to dance with a good dancer and a lot of them loved to dance with dad. Sometimes Mum had to join the queue to get a dance from him. When the demand was high, he would jive two women at the one time.

During the 80s, pop music became more mainstream and country music took a back seat. This was all about to change when Mid West Radio arrived. In our house, it became the only channel that was listened to. In the later years, the radio played 24/7.

The last few years have been particularly hard, especially for our mother. Six years ago, dad's health deteriorated following a stroke. He spent alot of time in hospital and in the Sacred Heart home. When his health improved, our mum was able to take him home to Tonlegee. He spent two years at home in the care of our mother. A decline in his health last August lead him to be hospitalised. On March 31, a fatal stroke proved too much and dad lost his battle on April 13.
Dad was not a very religious person but when it came to the end of a person's life he believed in helping them in their final journey, be it digging a grave or helping out in any way he could. May God grant him peaceful rest."

The esteem in which Paddy was held was there for all to see after a huge turnout at his removal from Aughagower Community Centre and from all those who attended his funeral Mass and burial in Aughagower.

Paddy is survived by his loving wife Jane and his daughters and sons, Caroline (Galway), Veronica (Louisburgh), Lisa (Aughagower), Joseph (Tonlegee), Tomas (Canada) and Paul (Dublin). His also survived by his brother Tommy in Birmingham and sisters Frances and Anne (Westport), Bernadette (Erriff), Veronica (Leitrim), Margaret (Ballintubber) and predeceased by three other sisters, Maureen, Peggy and Rita.

He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren Killian, Erin, Aine and Eoin Robinson, Aughagower; Caroline and Richard Mannion, Killadoon and Louise Martin, Galway; by his in-laws Leo, Richard, Barry and Renato and his brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Fr Jackie Conroy and Fr. Micheál MacGréil were celebrants at Paddy's Requiem Mass in St Patrick's Church Aughagower, before burial afterwards in the adjacent cemetery. May his gentle soul rest in peace. (Research):His 'lying in' is taking place in the village hall at the moment. The place has been packed for the last two hours. We knew it was going to be a large funeral. My husband is marshalling traffic with many others and he phoned just before to say traffic is gridlocked.he expects to be there for hours.
Paddy Pincer was quite a character, could be quite 'opinionated with a few drinks in him but likeable otherwise. About 3 years ago he fell on some ice at Christmas time and had another fall a few months later and never really recovered. He had been in a nursing home for a while. Too young to die ...

(Research):A veil of sadness fell over the village of Erriff and the parishes of Cushlough and Aughagower in the early hours of the morning on the August 13, following the death of Bernie Gavin aged just 70 years. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family following a short illness.

Bernie was born in Tonlegee, Aughagower on the September 6, 1948 to Bridie and Paddy McGing. She was the 7th of 10 children: Ann, Maureen, Francis, Tommie, Peggy, Paddy, Bernie, Veronica, Rita and Margaret. They were a very close family and they worked together on the family farm.
Bernie went to school in Shraheen and also in Clogher while she lived with the Kelly family in Pullalena. She left school at 14 and began work in The Railway Hotel with her sister Ann.
In 1963 aged just 15 at a dance in Tourmakeady Bernie met the love of her life Tommie Gavin from Erriff, and their love would last the test of time.

In 1967 they moved to London to work for a few years and they married in Edmonston in 1969. They were surrounded by family and friends, they began their own family in 1970 with the arrival of their daughter Maureen followed by John a couple of years later. In 1974 they decided to move home and farm the land in Erriff and complete their family Ann, Ger, Pat and Carmel.
Bernie worked hard all her life,

She farmed, reared her family, cooked and baked everyday and looked after Tommies parents until they passed away.

Bernie was not afraid to try new things but one thing she never mastered was, learning to drive. This in turn meant herself and Tommie spent more time together than most. A lot of this time was spent visiting family and friends and she always remained close to them through the years, this was evident with the amount of visitors that called to visit her in hospital and at home during her illness and in her final days.

Bernie was an exceptionally loving mother and all of her children loved spending time with her, but it was her role as a grandmother that she really loved, and when her first grandchild Becky came along in 1996 she loved her as if she was her own. That bond remained strong until her final days when Becky cared for her in the same way as her daughters.

Bernie loved all 15 of her grandchildren and not a birthday or Christmas would pass without a card being filled.

Over the years she especially loved her daily visits from "her 3 boys" Aodhán, Odhrán and Rían, whom she adored and weather it was 9am or 9pm when they called there was always "something nice" for them.

Not only did she love all of her grandchildren, but they loved her and each of them got the opportunity to spend time with her in her final days. They wrote cards to her and sang to her, and we know in our hearts she loved every minute.

Bernie loved the craic and especially loved family get togethers over the years and her family were delighted to get the opportunity to celebrate Tommie and Bernie's 50th wedding anniversary just 6 short months ago in February with Mass and a gathering!

Over the last number of years Bernie's health began to fail, but she fought the good fight and always kept the best side out when she could, but her illness which began at the end of June was to be her final battle.

In her final weeks, her family came together to look after her as she deserved and were truly blessed to be able to care for her at home where she always loved to be and where she wanted to spend her final days.

Mum, although we have lost the captain of our ship, we will never loose the memories you gave us. The laughs and fun we had even in your final days. Sleep well Mum. We will never forget you and we will look after each other and especially Dad x

Bernie is survived by her loving husband Tommie and heartbroken family Pat and Edel (Erriff), John and Mary Jo (Islandeady), Maureen and Gerard Joyce (Killsallagh), Ann and Seamus Nicholson (Louisburg), Ger and Ollie Mulchrone (Kilmeena), Carmel and Adrian Carter (Killawalla), grandchildren Becky Gavin and Ciara Nicholson, Aodhán, Rían and Odhrán Gavin, Megan, Gavin, Kyle and Finn Mulchrone, Emily and Tomas Gavin, Tristan and Lorcan Joyce and Jamie and Lucy Carter .

Bernie was predeceased by her brother Paddy McGing (Tonlegee); sisters Rita, Peggy (Tonlegee)and Maureen and Paddy Walsh (Bunrower).

Deeply mourned by her sisters and brothers-in-law Anne and Tom Kenny (Pinewoods), Francis and Tony Derrig (Moyhastin) Veronica and John Burke (Leitrim) and Margaret and Eamon Kelly (Ballintubber), her brother and sister-in-law Tommie and Kitty McGing (Birmingham), sisters-in-law Jane Mc Ging (Tonlegee), Margaret and Johnny Hallinan (Carnacon), Maureen and Pat O'Malley (Clogher), Kathleen and Michael Sweeney (Manchester), nieces, nephews, god-daughters Anita Carroll, Rita McHale and Emma Burke, a large extended family, friends and neighbours.
