1901 Irish Census Reports
ATTENTION - In the years since I transcribed these things by looking at microfilm records, they have all come online. So it is likely you'd be better served by going to the horse's mouth, so to speak. The National Archives of Ireland let you search at Irish Census search box. But there is some value added here, so feel free to poke around.

Notes from Sr. Helen: This is James McGing, whose mother was a dressmaker. He was a tailor. They moved to John's Row which is around the corner of the tip of High Street. John McGing with a sister-in-law Sarah (Naughton) who lived on High Street at that time. She had been married to John's brother, Patrick, who had died by 1901. Sarah worked as a dressmaker and had 4 children. By 1911 they had all moved to John's Row, and one of these children, James had become a Tailor (from the School enrolment records). Mary A. McGing and her sisters were the children of this James. Mary A McGing subsequently married Timothy J. Kelly

Note: James was born in Co Galway. No one else lived in the house with him. (But this part of Galway was later ceded to Co. Mayo)
James owned a 3rd class dwelling, with stone walls thatched roof, 2 rooms and 2 windowes. He lived there alone.
Signed by James McGing, Wm Denehy, Const, enumerator
There were 11 dwellings listed on Form B (landholder same as family in dwelling unless noted, in order, lines 1 - 11): Martin Gavin, Patrick Malley, Patrick Malley (James), Austin Malley, Charles Higgins, Patrick Gavin, Bridget McGing, Thomas Malone, Patrick Malone, James McGing, Lord Sligo (James Keith, Michael Travers, constable)
Yes, Philip's family kept animals to graze in Arderry since the family had rights to commonage (Land held in common).. They must have had a small house where a member of the family could stay when he had to go to Arderry tend the cattle. etc. Tourmakeady at that time was in Co. Galway. Later the boundaries were redrawn and it became Mayo. Therefore James could have been Philip's son, James or Jimmy as he was called. If 14 was his correct age it would mean he was born in 1887 and I have his birth as 1884, which would mean he was 17 at the time.
