June 18, 2023 Galway McGing Families.
In my research, I have a group of McGing/Ging families in Galway, and I mean Galway that was not made part of Mayo when the border changed, but "below" that, the Galway that still is Galway today. And they have always been an issue because the main group of McGings settled around Westport in the 1820s, (likely from the North, if tentattive DNA data can get suported) yet we have some in West Galway at the same time. I've had the odd DNA match with some of these Galway families, which supports the theory the McGing's are all related but I'm brickwalled on figuring out how these Galway families are related to both themselves and to the main McGing family.
So I've pulled together the 13 or so family units I have found in Galway just to put them out there. They are in the tree here if you want more detail, but are stand alone or floating trees because we cannot figure it out yet.

The following are records Sr. Helen obtained from the Galway Heritage Center and I have not yet been able to find the matching LDS film for them. They are not from LDS films. Note that McGing was often in the Mayo records shown as GING until the mid 1830s, where it commonly was shown as McGing. These records from Galway show the name as Ging into the 1900s. For an explanation of the names, see this link. Perhaps people with the surname of Ging today can trace themselves back to these Galway McGings?
